Pink roses, azalea, sweet lilacs, bleeding hearts, quince blossoms and pansies sit waiting in a bowl. Washed and picked for sugar coating they await their transformation…they will become sugar coated flowers. Lovingly painting their petals with a brush, I cover the flowers with a special mix of frothy white of egg, a touch of confectioner’s sugar and lemon juice. Some flowers can be dipped into the liquid. I then pour crystal showers of finely ground, almost powdered castor sugar over them in waves until thee petals are covered. I do it again , catching the empty spots until they are all covered , then allow them to dry. The flowers can be gently placed on a sieve or a screen placed over a plate to catch the excess coating that will drip off the petals while drying. More o the fine castor sugar can be poured over the drying blossoms and after sitting overnight they will be dry and sugar coated and sparklingly preserved. The crystal covered flowers make wonderful cake decorations , especially for fancy tortes and cakes made with rose petal jam.

Phoenixes and Angels; both rise up to Heaven… A bronze cast from a wax original, standing four feet tall, my sculpture, “Golden Shakti”is photographed here against a painted detail of an abstracted wing. Rising up from the flames into a golden sky, reborn and crowned with gold, the Goddess is rising like a Phoenix. Rising up from the ashes of our own self immolation, we feel the planets collectively as Uranus in Aries, wild and willful, opposes Saturn in steady Capricorn. We feel the desire for freedom and for truth as the Feminine arises empowered refusing to be restricted and restrained. Venus, the Goddess of love and Chiron the Healer are meeting in the sign of Pisces in their yearly embrace. A wave of compassion, a rising up of the Feminine is spreading, healing pain with solace and releasing love to the world from the collective feminine heart. Angels will be rising like Phoenixes in their flames – the Year of the Fire Cock is coming, giving us the rare opportunity to rise up like a Phoenix and fly.

Persephone is still in darkness, here… in the North. Our bodies and hearts yearn for her and we pray for her emergence…Struggling to break through into the light, she is surrounded by flowers and tendrils and roots, coming alive all around her. She breathes love and fire into the black earth, incubating life with her sighs and her breath.

Aedh Wishes For The Cloths Of Heaven
Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
— William Butler Yeats
